Getting the Male Perspective: Talking with Henrietta
Over the past few years, the public has seen many news reports and protests over the shootings of unarmed men by the police. These shootings, of mostly black men, led to the Black Lives Movement.
In many cases, we have seen the reactions expressed by the mothers, wives, sisters and children of the victims. But, we seldom see reports with the victim’s male relatives that show how they are dealing with their experience of loss. On this show, I talk to male relatives of victims of police shootings Cephus Johnson, also known as Uncle Bobby X, who is the uncle of Oscar Grant and Richard Perez, who is the father of Richard “Pedie” Perez, who was shot by police in Richmond in 2014. Social activist and artist JT Faraji joined our in studio conversation.
