The East Palo Alto Center for Community Media is a hub of communications in East Palo Alto. Through the center, which you can see online at, we established three media outlets – the East Palo Alto Today newspaper, EPA Today online, and the Talking with Henrietta television show – in a city that lacked any locally produced newspaper, radio or television outlets.

East Palo Alto Today launched in 2006 as the city's first newspaper in 20 years. The center also supports the Talking with Henrietta television show, which allows the center to widen its news efforts since the show features area newsmakers, who discuss timely local and national news topics that are relevant to East Palo Alto and its neighboring cities.

These three media outlets represent a communications breakthrough for the East Palo Alto community, as they provide area residents with:

• Access to locally relevant information and tools to further civic awareness and involvement

• A mentoring program to teach journalism skills to give community members a more powerful voice

• An opportunity to present to neighboring communities many of the positive, productive activities and events taking place in the East Palo Alto community

• Media opportunities that support ongoing dialogues about the issues, personalities and events shaping local, state and national policies

• A forum for local businesses to promote their products and services

The center needs your support to continue providing the East Palo Alto community with the vital news coverage that is so important to its residents. With the shrinkage of mainstream media, community media is now even more important as a means for keeping a small, local community informed about the critical issues its residents face.

Any amount you can give will enable us to keep community media in East Palo Alto alive.
