Security Notice - Fraudulent Emails Falsely Claim to Be from EPA Today

Editor's Note: EPA Today is publishing this notice to inform readers about fraudulent emails that falsely appeared to come from our organization and to explain the steps we have taken to protect our community. These emails were not sent by EPA Today. There is no evidence that EPA Today's email accounts or subscriber information were compromised.

What happened?
Several readers contacted EPA Today on June 30 after receiving fraudulent emails that falsely appeared to come from our email address. The messages requested information and included attachments that were not sent by EPA Today. We immediately began reviewing our systems, changing account credentials, notifying readers, strengthening account security and implementing additional email authentication measures
How to recognize a legitimate EPA Today email
Official emails from EPA Today will:
Come from epatoday@epatoday.org
Never ask for your password.
Never ask for financial account information.
Never ask you to verify your account by replying to an email.
Only contain links to official EPA Today or trusted partner websites.
If you receive a suspicious email
If you receive an email claiming to be from EPA Today that seems unusual:
Do not click links or open attachments.
Do not reply.
Delete the email.
Contact EPA Today directly if you have any questions.
What EPA Today has done
