July 15 - Mrs. Barbara Mouton's Birthday
Mrs. Barbara Mouton
was interviewed
in January 2007 by KQED television
producer Jim Yager, when she was
selected by the television station to
be one of the recipients of its Local
Heroes Award. The award was given
in February 2007 during Black History Month.
If she were alive today, Mrs. Barbara Mouton, who was the first mayor of East Palo Alto, would celebrate her birthday on July 15. During her
funeral service on March 23, 2007, she was honored for being East Palo Alto's first mayor and for being the inspiration for the incorporation of East Palo
Alto as a city. Go here to see a slide presentation by East Palo Alto's Community Services Director Meda Okelo, showing some of those who
attended her funeral to pay her tribute.

The City of East Palo Alto celebrated its 25th birthday on July 1, 2008. Go here to see EPA Today's online article about East Palo Alto's 25th Anniversary Celebration.
