A new community website is born.
East Palo Alto, California – Billing itself as a place where tenants can find help, a new website known as epa-tenants.org was launched today to give the East Palo Alto community needed information about the city's housing crisis.
The website is produced and supported by a local tenants coalition active in fighting the rent increases being levied by Page Mill Properties, the largest rental property owner in East Palo Alto.
Chris Lund, a community organizer and a tenant in one of Page Mill Property's apartment complexes said, "The purpose of the website is to raise awareness and let the community know what is happening."
The website empasizes that there is a housing crisis taking place on the peninsula, particularly in respect to affordable housing.
In speaking about the widespread rent increases for East Palo Alto tenants, the number of renters being displaced and the past and current litigation involving rental housing, Lund said, "This is probably one of the most serious attacks that we've seen in affordable housing on the peninsula in many, many years given the number of people this crisis impacts."
The website provides legal resources for tenants, information about the housing crisis, legal aids and a variety of links that users can access for additional resources pertaining to rental housing issues in East Palo Alto.
