History through Hip Hop

The Caribbean Students Association (CSA) of Stanford University in collaboration with the Mural Music & Arts Project (MMAP) will present the 3rd Annual Movement Benefit Concert featuring History through Hip Hop: A Movement through Time. In an effort to bridge the gap between Stanford University and surrounding communities, The Movement will showcase the talent of East Palo Alto youth in MMAP's History through Hip Hop Program (HHH) along with CSA and other Stanford student groups. This years show, "A Movement through Time," will take a trip back to the late 70's, touching on the issues that affected Hip Hop over the last three decades as it has evolved into the thriving culture to which youth identify today. The Movement has proven to be an entertaining night of artistic expression and will continue to foster performing arts in the Silicon Valley. On Sunday, March 1st at 7pm "A Movement through Time" will be hosted by, Emmy Award winning actor, Robert Ri'chard and feature a live performance by Fear & Fancy. All proceeds from The Movement will be donated to MMAP's History through Hip Hop Program (HHH).

The Movement Benefit Concert seeks to reciprocate the support that MMAP has afforded Stanford students as well as advance the goals of HHH using the arts as a vehicle for social change. The concert is composed of choreographed dance and musical performances by HHH and emerging Stanford artists as well as a fashion show produced by the CSA. The event is targeted primarily to the communities of Stanford, East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City and Palo Alto. All advertising and publicity will be done through email, word of mouth, posters, banners, flyers and online platforms such as Facebook and MySpace.  The show will be co-produced and overseen by CSA Co-Presidents, Anna Bethune '10 and Kyrah Daniels '10, and HHH Directors, Fred McNeill and Daniel Callahan.
