Shooting Investigation

On March 25, 2009 at approximately 12:12 A.M., East Palo Alto Police Officers were alerted to gunfire by means of a ShotSpotter activation. The ShotSpotter system detected 8 to 9 gunshots on the 2000 block of Pulgas Avenue and alerted East Palo Alto Police Officers that the gunfire originated near the area of 2068 Pulgas Avenue.

East Palo Alto Police Officers responded to the ShotSpotter activation and while doing so, they received citizen reports through the emergency dispatch center that gunshots were in fact discharged on the 2000 block of Pulgas Avenue and someone had been shot. Having that information, East Palo Alto Police Officers responded to the 2000 block of Pulgas Avenue with a sense of urgency and discovered a gunshot victim at 2068 Pulgas Avenue.

The victim is a 43 year old Hispanic male from Menlo Park and police officers located him on the porch of 2068 Pulgas Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower right portion of his back. Fire/Medical personnel from the Menlo Park Fire Department were immediately summoned to the scene to render aid and the victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital emergency room for further medical treatment. As of 03:15 A.M., the victim was listed in critical condition, but his gunshot wound wasn’t considered to be a life threatening injury.

Detectives from the East Palo Alto Police Department Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating this matter and are attempting to develop leads and a motive for the shooting.
